Barbara Dorfman will share tips for “Designing a Garden with Native Plants” on April 15, 2019 in a presentation hosted by the Gwinnett County Master Gardeners Association.

Why do native plants matter in our gardens and landscapes? In addition to providing shelter and food for birds, butterflies and other wildlife, native plants require far less maintenance, saving time, money, and perhaps the most valuable natural resource, water. On April 15 at 7pm, Horticulturist and Master Gardener Barbara Dorfman will share how to incorporate native plants into your site design.

After taking the Master Gardener course in 1985, Barbara was inspired to continue her studies in horticulture at Gwinnett Technical School. She worked in sales and design at retail and wholesale nurseries until 2004, then continued as an independent landscape consultant. Barbara’s specialties are teaching homeowners and garden clubs how to handle their overgrown landscapes and how to eliminate exotic invasive plants. She is an active member of the Georgia Native Plant Society and is passionate about promoting the use of native plants in the home landscape.

In this presentation, Barbara will share images of her own beautiful yard and offer ways to incorporate native plants into your overall design whether you envision incorporating a few plants or a complete makeover.

The Gwinnett County Master Gardeners’ Association is hosting this presentation at the Bethesda Senior Center, 225 Bethesda Church Road, Lawrenceville, GA 30044. The public is welcome at no charge – bring a covered dish to share and join us for dinner at 6:30, or just come for the program beginning promptly at 7 p.m.
