Plant Drop Off Days: April 19th through April 22nd
Our plant sale will be here soon! We need Plant Sale chairpersons. Please contact Kathy Sumner for more information and to volunteer. If two to four members step up to help with the organization of the sale, it will be manageable work for all. Kathy will be available to mentor and assist. Please call Kathy with questions (678-357-8684).
Get ready everyone! We need plants! Think about what plants can be dug from your garden and make a list of plant names and estimated quantities. Contact neighbors or friends who may be interested in digging and potting plants from their gardens to donate to our sale. Let Kathy know if you have any contacts who may be interested in having a dig in their garden.
Potting guidelines from Kathy Sumner
o Use black #1 size black plastic pots.
o Place a coffee filter in the bottom of the pot.
o Add dried leaves.
o Then top with a small amount of soil.
o Place the plant in a pot and add more soil. Make sure the roots are covered.
o Yellow labels are available at the cottage.
o All plants brought to the cottage for the sale must be potted in #1 black plastic pots, clean of any dead leaves, and LABELED.
If you are digging your own plants- Any member can lead a dig at their home. Recruit a few garden club friends or others to help you.
§ Please follow the potting guidelines and make sure all plants are labeled. Make a list of the plants that have been dug for the sale and include the name and quantity of each plant. Send the list to Kathy as soon as you can. (kesumner@att.net) If you have pictures of any of your plants, please make a few copies that can be used at the sale. Please let Kathy know or respond to this email if you are digging plants from your garden and the approximate quantity.
§ Soil is available at Dorothy Archer’s driveway, 60 Buchanan Street, Norcross. Look for the tarp on the right side of the driveway. There is a shovel for your use. Bring your own buckets to transport the soil. Please replace the tarp and shovel.
§ Plant digs are being scheduled now! For the digs, volunteers are needed to help with digging, potting, and plant labeling. We also need volunteers who can help store and care for plants until the sale. Please text Kathy and let her know the following information. (Kathy S: 678-357-8684)
¨ When are you available to dig-morning or afternoon, weekday or weekend?
¨ What task or tasks do you prefer: digging, potting, labeling, or storing and caring for potted plants until the sale.
¨ PLEASE respond so we know your availability and what tasks you prefer.
Remember to save the sale dates and time during the preceding week on your calendar. We ask members who can, to donate time for sale prep and to work at least one 2-hour shift during the sale. A Sign-up Genie will be sent out closer to the sale. To have a successful sale, we need all hands-on deck to prepare for the sale. Questions? Contact Kathy Sumner (text:678.357.8684)
Treasures and House Plants needed for the Sale.
We will be collecting “treasures” to sell inside the cottage during the plant sale. If you would like an item returned to you if it doesn’t sell, please label the item with your name. Please look around your homes and gardens for items that would be of interest to gardeners-decorative pots, yard art, garden tools, garden related magazines/books, seeds. Please, no sleeping bags, camping related items, household items (unless they have a garden theme). If you would not buy it, don’t bring it!
House plants are also needed for the sale and will be displayed in the cottage. Look around to see if you have any that you can divide to share for the sale. If you know the light and watering requirements for your house plant, please include an information card.
The annual plant sale is our club’s most important fundraiser. To be successful, your participation and support is needed. Most importantly, please respond to the requests for information. And let Kathy know if you are interested in considering the chairperson’s role.
