Plant Sale Prep Days at the cottage April 21-23

Our plant sale will be here soon! It’s not too late to volunteer to be co-chairs for the sale. We have many tasks, and it would be most helpful to have two to four volunteers to help organize the work. Please contact Kathy Sumner for more information and to volunteer. If several members step up to help with the organization of the sale, it will be manageable work for all. Kathy will be available to mentor and assist. Please call Kathy with questions (678-357-8684).

Get ready everyone! We need plants! Have you been digging in your gardens? PLEASE make a list of the plant names and estimated quantity that you will bring for the Plant Sale. Send the list to Kathy by Wednesday, April 16th (kesumner@att.net) She needs time to compile a master plant inventory list so signs can be made for the sale.  Don’t forget to ask neighbors or friends if they have plants they can dig and donate to our sale.

Potting guidelines from Kathy Sumner

o   Use black #1 size black plastic pots.

o   Place a coffee filter in the bottom of the pot. (Optional)

o   Add dried leaves. Then top with a small amount of soil.

o   Place the plant in a pot and add more soil. Make sure the roots are covered and tucked in.

o   Yellow labels are available at the cottage.

o    All plants brought to the cottage for the sale must be potted in #1 black plastic pots, clean of any dead leaves, and LABELED.

§  Soil is available at Dorothy Archer’s driveway, 60 Buchanan Street, Norcross. Look for the tarp on the right side of the driveway.  There is a shovel for your use. Bring your own buckets to transport the soil. Please replace the tarp and shovel.

  •     Two final digs are scheduled for next week.Volunteers are needed to help with digging, potting, and plant labeling. PLEASE text Kathy and let her know if you can help. (Kathy: 678-357-8684)  Stay for as long as your schedule permits.

Treasures and House Plants needed for the Sale.

We are collecting “treasures” to sell inside the cottage during the plant sale. If you would like an item returned to you if it doesn’t sell, please label the item with your name. Please look around your homes and gardens for items that would be of interest to gardeners-decorative pots, yard art, garden tools, garden related magazines/books, seeds. Please, no sleeping bags, camping related items, household items (unless they have a garden theme). If you would not buy it, don’t bring it!

House plants are also needed for the sale and will be displayed in the cottage.  Look around to see if you have any that you can divide to share for the sale. If you know the light and watering requirements for your house plant, please include an information card.

Spread the word! Our members are our best advocates for letting others know about our sale. Attached are copies of the plant sale flyer in English and Spanish. Please post where you can and promote on your personal Facebook and Instagram accounts.

The annual plant sale is our club’s most important fundraiser. To be successful, your participation and support is needed. Most importantly, please respond to the requests for information. And let Kathy know if you are interested in considering a co-chair role
