SAVE THE DATES for Stripling Elementary Events
1. Career Day, March 25th We are asked to talk about gardening as a career path. They would also like us to bring various gardening-related tools to show and describe uses for the tools. We also will bring hyacinth bean pods for the students to plant. Kathy has volunteered to lead the presentation, but she would like some helpers and moral support. Time commitment is about an hour. It will be during regular school hours. Will let you know the exact time soon.
2. STEM Night, Thursday March 26th 6-7:30pm
This year’s STEM Night Theme is “Glaciers.” Put on your thinking caps and let Kathy know if you have any ideas for an interactive display/presentation that we can present to the students and their families at the event that is related to how glaciers may affect gardening, our environment, or sustainability. Trudy has suggested an idea. We’re working on figuring cost and feasibility. Please consider volunteering to help out at the event. Kathy: (678.357.8684). Time commitment is about 2 hours.
SAVE THE DATE ANNUAL SPRING PLANT SALE APRIL 23-25
10A-7P Thursday and Friday; 10A-2P Saturday
Our plant sale will be here soon! We need Plant Sale chairpersons. Please contact Kathy Sumner for more information and to volunteer. If two to four members step up to help with the organization of the sale, it will be manageable work for all. Kathy will be available to mentor and assist. Please call Kathy with questions (678-357-8684).
Think about what plants can be dug from your garden and make a list of plant names and estimated quantity. Contact neighbors or friends who may be interested in digging and potting plants from their gardens to donate to our sale.
Remember to save the sale dates and time during the preceding week on your calendar. We ask members who can, to donate time for sale prep and to work at least one 2-hour shift during the sale. A Sign-up Genie will be sent out closer to the sale.
To have a successful sale, we need all hands-on deck to prepare for the sale.
Let the Plant Digs Begin!
Potting soil has been delivered to Dorothy Archers side yard. It’s covered with a tarp. There is a shovel available for your use. Please bring your own buckets or containers for the soil. Remember this soil is for potting plants for the plant sale.
Kathy has a few small digs that she would like to get started next week. If you can help, please let her know your availability-day and time window ASAP. (678-357-8684). If you are not familiar with a plant dig, we will train as we go. There are other tasks, such as potting, labeling, counting and recording the plant quantities from each dig that anyone can do if you don’t want to dig or have physical limitations. Please let Kathy know if you need help digging from your own yard.
And PLEASE consider volunteering to help with organizing or leading digs.
