Floral Arrangements for Meals on Wheels

Following our meeting on October 10th, 17 members pitched in to create 74 floral arrangements for Meals on Wheels clients and 14 thank you arrangements for MOW volunteers.  Members took advantage of the perfect weather and worked on the arrangements in the garden. A good time was had by all. Jenny Allen reports that the MOW clients absolutely love receiving the arrangements! Thanks to all who participated in any way—from donating glass bottles, jars, and greenery to filling the containers with water, arranging flowers, loading the boxes of arrangements and cleaning up. Great teamwork!  Don’t forget to save glass jars for the next MOW floral arranging project. Date is TBD. (See photos at the end)

Cottage Garden Care

We encourage members to stop by anytime it’s convenient for weeding in our garden. Bring a friend or family member with you to pick up debris and pull a few weeds!  If you have any questions, please text Pam Cammarata (770-314-9541).

Farm in the Corners, (https://www.peachtreefarm.org/) is in Technology Park at 350 Research Court, Peachtree Corners, GA 30092. At the October meeting, we learned more about the Farm in the Corners! The mission of Peachtree Farm is to produce and wholesale locally grown produce for the metro Atlanta and North Georgia area while providing job opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Joe Twiner, executive director and two farmers, Quinn and Joey talked about the day-to-day activities and the future plans for the farm. Volunteers are needed as “job coaches” for the farmers, administrative tasks and for events.  The Peachtree Farm Fall Festival, “Tailgate for Tomatoes” is Saturday, October 21st from noon until 4pm. The main feature at the event is the sale of tomatoes. The tomatoes are grown by the hydroponic method in the greenhouse.  Interested volunteers should contact the farm through the website.  Stop by to buy some delicious tomatoes and check out the farm!

The Enchanted Forest-Sunday, November 5th 2-4pm, Johnson Dean Forest

Composting, recycling and creative nature play for the whole family!

Nature Walk, Storytelling, Crafts & more—Suitable for all ages, the Enchanted Forest is a magical way to experience nature –all are welcome!

The Enchanted Forest is a community favorite for the Norcross Youth Earth Team, hosted by the Norcross Garden Club annually in the Johnson Dean Forest Preserve. This event takes place the first Sunday after Halloween "when fairies manifest in the forest and observant and quiet visitors can see the doorways to their homes." Storytelling will begin at 2PM while leading participants through the forest to discover the magical fairy doors, and to encourage the youth to look for natural items to use in creating their own fairy houses. Participants are encouraged to bring their Halloween pumpkins to repurpose into fairy houses.  Leftover pumpkins will be placed in the forest as a food source and habitat for wildlife.  The remaining extra pumpkins will get composted in a local school garden.  Fairy house vignettes will be on display for one week following the event. (Flyer in jpg and pdf formats is attached)
