Garden Therapy

Please bring to the meeting:

  • plastic grocery bags for the Neighborhood Cooperative Ministry. They always need bags for packaging food for the clients.
  • can pull tabs for Ronald McDonald House.
  • glass jars to be used as flower vases for Meals on Wheels clients.

We will make the flower arrangements after our meeting. All are welcome to help. If you can stay to help, please bring snips and a smile!

Dogwood District 65th Annual Meeting-Wednesday October 25, Dunwoody Country Club

Cottage Garden Care

We encourage members to stop by anytime it’s convenient for weeding in our garden. Bring a friend or family member with you to pick up debris and pull a few weeds!  If you have any questions, please text Pam Cammarata (770-314-9541).

Thanks to all who participated in the Garden Workday last week.  Twelve members weeded, pruned, dug up oak seedlings and dead-headed during the garden workday.  We filled eleven yard waste bags!


National Garden Club Virtual Presentation- Environmental School Course 1

A word of encouragement from the NGC President, Brenda Moore “I encourage members to GO for it, whether it is deciding to attend NGC schools, deciding to serve in their club, on their state or the NGC board of directors, or making changes to long held traditions to make all garden clubs more appealing to all individuals.” Barbara is also asking members to consider attending the virtual Environmental School Course 1.  See attached for more information.


Garden Gateways Fall 2023 Edition

The new Garden Gateways format should have arrived in your mailbox. The Garden Club of Georgia’s mission Beautification, Conservation, Education can be seen throughout the publication.  It’s a new size and format and full of interesting articles, upcoming events, and news from clubs across the state. It is also available in digital format.  To find the digital version, please visit https://gardenclubofgeorgia.org/.  There is also a bonus special: Garden Gateways Fall ONLINE EXTRAS with more GCG news and activities.  Garden Gateways is included in our annual membership. Our membership to the Norcross Garden Club also includes membership to the Garden Club of Georgia and The National Garden Clubs.  Take advantage of the wealth of information and educational resources and opportunities that are highlighted in each Garden Gateways publication and available through the Garden Club of Georgia and the National Garden Clubs.


Plant America-Feed America is the National Garden Club’s theme for the next two years.  Last week’s TWIG included information about the program and also the form for recording food donations if you can participate. Plant America Feed America

Linda Doiron, member of our club and Gardening Newsletter Editor for the Garden Club of Georgia wrote “A Gardener’s Open Hands” highlighting the opportunities we have as gardeners to participate in the ongoing fight against hunger in our communities.  Please read Linda’s thoughtful article on page 4 of Garden Gateways.

Barbara Bourque, GCG Legislative Chair, published an extensive article for protecting the future of the Okefenokee Swamp and its importance to Georgia residents. This article is a concise overview and summary of the issues at hand.  In last week’s TWIG we reported about the importance of contacting Georgia legislators to express support of Georgia House Bill 71. The Georgia Water Coalition is hosting a meeting and workshop on Nov 8-9 near the OKE Swamp.  Save the date and look for more details to follow.

Landscape Design Newsletter Editor, Suzanne Finger explores how functionality is an important first step in landscape design.  Suzanne’s first installment of a four-part series of Landscape Design 101 can be found at https://gardenclubofgeorgia.org/membership-publications/.

“Environmentally Yours-Citizen Scientist” by Lorene Faulkenberry can be found on page 8 of Gateways.  Learn about The Great Backyard Bird Count and the Great Southeastern Pollinator Census. Citizen Scientists are the eyes and ears that provide firsthand observations to these studies.  For an interesting and informative read see page 8.
