National Pollinator Week June 17 – 23
Sustainable Norcross invites all to honor our buzzing pollinator friends this month. Observe busy pollinators in your own garden and in your neighborhood. Add a pollinator-friendly plant to your garden or container gardens. Pike Nurseries suggest adding some of these pollinator favorites: Salvia, Lantana, Pentas, Angelonia, Marigolds. Pike also recently featured a suggestion for creating a “bee bath”—fill a shallow dish with stones and add water, place it near a container garden or any place in your garden near pollinator plants. This simple bee bath gives the bees a place to rest and re-hydrate.
SAVE THE DATES! Great Southeast Pollinator Census August 23-24
All citizens are invited to participate in the Great Southeast Pollinator Census. Check out this website for more information: https://gsepc.org/. Stay tuned for more information on how our club will participate.
Meals on Wheels Flower Arrangements-Thursday, June 27th 6pm at the Cottage
One of our favorite projects is to make flower arrangements for the Meals on Wheels clients. Please bring flowers from your garden or purchase flowers from Trader Joe’s. We also need green bottles (the size of beer bottles or Perrier bottles) Or other clear bottles of the same size. This type of bottle works great as a vase. (Please no short mason jar type). Feel free to bring wine, another beverage or a light appetizer/snack.

Striping Elementary School Garden
Several club members had a fun morning with students and teachers at Striping Elementary. Kathy talked about good and bad garden pests. She brought a few live sample bugs for them to see and passed around pictures of others. Then we went out to the garden beds. The students had fun looking for garden bugs. They were very enthusiastic about the progress of the plants and vegetables. We helped them thin out zinnia’s and many took home a plant. There is a video link below, courtesy of member Jill Rice. You may have to right click and open it in a new window.
