Georgia Arbor Day Celebration, Friday February 16th 10A at Pinnacle Park
All members are invited to join the Norcross Tree Preservation Board, Mayor Craig Newton, the Georgia Forestry Commission and local students to celebrate Georgia Arbor Day. Please arrive by 9:30.
Arborist Rick Barnes will lead an educational program and we will watch the planting of a Shumard Oak
reinforcing Norcross’ commitment to a greener future. A sweet treat will also be provided.
Monday, February 19th Gwinnett Masters Gardeners Meeting, 12P
LOCATION: Bethesda Senior Center, 225 Bethesda Church Road, Lawrenceville, GA
TOPIC: “Ferns” GUEST SPEAKER: Connie Gray, Program Coordinator and Board Member of the Athens-East Piedmont Chapter of the Georgia Native Plant Society will share her knowledge on “Ferns.” GCMGA meetings are free and open to the public. If you would like to join the group for lunch, please come at 11:30 and bring a dish to share.
Friday, February 23rd Field Trip-Atlanta Botanical Garden for the Flower Show
At the January meeting, Cathy Nelmes shared that she would like to organize a trip to the Atlanta Botanical Garden to attend the Flower Show on Friday, February 23rd. So far, nine (9) members have signed up. Kathy Sumner can take 7 passengers in her car. We will need at least one more driver. Please contact Cathy Nelmes if you would like to sign up to attend the Flower Show (raynelmes@aol.com).
Admission for non ABG (Atlanta Botanical Garden) members is $29.95 for a Flower Show weekend pass. ABG members’ ticket cost is $10. Please see the Atlanta Botanical website for more information about the Flower Show, other Garden events, and membership pricing. https://atlantabg.org/
The Okefenokee Protection Act -House Bill 71
The Garden Club of Georgia is asking all Garden Club members to act by contacting their State Legislators to remind them of the importance of passing House Bill 71. The new legislative session began on January 8th and ends on March 28th. Please consider calling and or writing to your State House and Senate representatives. Detailed information about the Okefenokee Swamp and its importance and specific information on how to contact the Georgia legislators was attached to TWIG Vol 124. A wonderful selection of edible and ornamental plants available for pre-sale, along with a new and different choice of plants available for purchase the day of pick up. We need members to help in several roles and committees. Please let Kathy Sumner know what you would like to help with. Examples: Publicity, plant digs and sale, youth activities, giving talks or workshops, leading a field trip, helping write up awards etc. Please let us know what your interests and talents are and how you would like to help the Norcross Garden Club. Planting for Pollinators Series (Hosted by Sustainable Norcross and the Bee City Committee)
Workshop 1: Planning Your Garden with Pollinators in Mind was led by Tixie Fowler on Tuesday Feb 6th. It was well attended, very informative and fun, too! 6 members, including Tixie attended the workshop. To register for future workshops, visit Planting For Pollinators Workshop Registration.
Cottage Garden Care
